It’s nice when you get rewarded for doing the right thing. The ‘right thing’ is what the Dykstra family has tried to do with their pest control company for many years.

EnviroPest first started out as Doty’s Pest Control in 1965 serving the Fort Collins, Colorado area with personable and professional service. In 1989 Richard Dykstra purchased the company and changed the name to Tri-City Pest Control to reflect their more regional coverage. The same family-owned, personal touch remained.

Years later Richard looked at the company and came to two major conclusions: One, this was now a Colorado pest control company with clients up and down the Front Range; and two, he wanted a name to reflect the company’s efforts to treat pest control in the most environmentally safe methods possible.  In 2001 the name was changed to EnviroPest.

It was also important to Richard for EnviroPest to remain ‘family-owned’ so in 2005 his son, Marc Dykstra, assumed the role of President. Equipped with an extensive background in computers and IT, Marc has helped EnviroPest blaze the trail for new technology for pest control companies across the country.  EnviroPest was one of the first pest control companies in the United States to go paperless proving that there was more ‘green’ in the company than just the logo. Their handheld technology is considered one of the most efficient and productive tools in the industry.

But in the end it still remains to be about one thing for the Dykstra family- people. “It’s always been more about people than profit”, says Richard. “Anyone can kill an ant. We just want to hire good people to work with good people.”

Sometimes, nice guys do finish first.
